Its been a while since I last posted. That’s mostly because I’ve been too busy enjoying my holiday downtime to do anything as laborious as opening my laptop. Reading books, baking, decorating, watching the Die Hard series 4.7 times – has been a full-time gig, and it’s be so wonderful! I’m all about ‘stay-cations’ now that we have a home of our own. I never want to leave. I’m not one to get homesick, but after travelling constantly for the past 4 months, I found myself yearning for the quiet of our house. So, I took two weeks off and enjoyed it thoroughly. There’s nothing like just being in your own space and soaking it in.
So, I’ll fill you in on this year’s Christmas decor stylings in our home as we celebrate our first Christmas in the house together!
To begin, it all starts with the tree! This year’s Christmas tree theme (which I like changing up each year) was ‘Silver, Gold, White, and Fox Fur’ (of course!). I was able to reuse a bundle of the antique ornaments I purchased last Christmas on Ebay, and added a few fun bird and snowflake ones I picked up from West Elm (YAY free shipping sale!). I then made a dozen or so fox-flakes (the lovely fox ball snowflakes) out of some old parka trim my sister had leftover from last year, and sewed them into little pom-poms with hooks (only took me about 4 episodes of Downtown Abbey to make them all). A little bit of gold garland, some pinecones, and our wooden initials (H&P) and voila! J’s taken to calling it the Harry Potter tree (*sigh) so I may need to get a different font type next year.
Oh, and to take a page out of Sarah Richardson’s book, I finished off the look with a faux-sheepskin tree skirt (ties it all together, doncha think?). The only thing missing is a tree topper. Unfortunately, I had thought I bought one from West Elm at the end of last year, but it appears in the end I didn’t. So we were sans topper this year. Nonetheless, I’m quite happy with it.
Hope you like. More to come this new year! Happy festivus everyone!!
