I’m enjoying a lot of the paint-dipped motifs that I’ve been seeing lately and with a bit of spare paint on a sunny afternoon, I decided to try some out for myself. I’ve also been on a geometric kick lately too, so I figured I’d have a little fun with a scruffy old IKEA FROSTA stool we had lying around.
Using some leftover white Benji cabinet paint I had out (yes, I’m still painting cabinet doors, *sigh), I gave the stool a quick once over with a fine grade of sandpaper to help prep the surface, and give the paint something to grip.
Then I taped off the legs and started painting. I didn’t bother priming this time, though your probably should, but I wasn’t too worried about it being perfect, just pretty.
Next for the stool top, I wanted to make a somewhat random triangular pattern with very clean lines. So I started by making a sheet of green Frog Tape on a layer of wax paper and planned out my pattern on that, with an idea to cut it out with a scalpel, peel it off the paper, and stick it onto the stool. Easy peasy.
As I quickly learned, Frog Tape does not come off wax paper very easily. So don’t try this at home. Instead, I should have used a sheet of plastic or parchment to lay the Frog Tape on first. Nonetheless, it eventually came together on the stool with some added effort, lots of measuring, and several more sketches. Once the pattern was established, I rolled on a couple layers of paint.
And there you have it! A lovely new addition to the greenhouse.
